The short answer

Oral Wegovy is a once-daily semaglutide tablet (semaglutide 25 mg) that the FDA approved on December 22, 2025, with a U.S. launch on January 5, 2026. It contains the same active drug, semaglutide, as the familiar weekly Wegovy injection, but in pill form with its own dosing rules. Both are brand-name, FDA-approved products from Novo Nordisk.

What did the trials show?

In the OASIS 4 trial (Wharton S et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2025; DOI 10.1056/NEJMoa2500969), oral semaglutide produced average weight loss of about 16.6% at 64 weeks if all participants stayed on treatment, and about 13.6% regardless of adherence, compared with roughly 2.4 to 2.7% for placebo. As always, individual results vary and these figures come from a controlled trial of the brand medication.

Is oral Wegovy FDA-approved, and what does it cost?

Yes. Per Novo Nordisk's launch communications, the pill was "available today for only $149 per month" for the 1.5 mg starting dose at launch, dispensed through 70,000-plus pharmacies, NovoCare, and partners. Note that the 4 mg dose rose to about $199 after April 15, 2026, and top doses are around $299 per month. Confirm current pricing with the manufacturer before relying on any number.

How does this compare to compounded semaglutide?

Oral Wegovy is a brand-name, FDA-approved pill. Compounded semaglutide is prepared per prescription by a licensed U.S. pharmacy, is given by injection, and is not FDA-approved or brand-identical. They are different products. New Hope Weight Loss does not dispense brand Wegovy and cannot compound a copy of it. What we offer is physician-supervised compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, with honest guidance if a branded option fits you better.
